NARANJO EN FLOR

Music by: Virgilio Exposito

Lyrics by: Homero Exposito

Era mas blanda que el agua,
She was softer than the water,
que el agua blanda,
than the soft water,
era mas fresca que el rio,
she was fresher than the river,
 naranjo en flor...
orange tree in bloom...

Y en esa calle de estio,
and in that summer street,
calle perdida,
lost street,
dejo un pedazo de vida
she left a piece of life
y se marcho...
and left...

Primero hay que saber sufrir,
First, you have to know how to suffer,
despues amar, despues partir
then how to love, then how to depart,
y al fin andar sin pensamiento...
and finally be thoughtless
Perfume de naranjo en flor,
Perfume of orange tree in bloom,
promesas vanas de un amor
vain(futile?) promises of love
que se escaparon en el viento...
that escaped in the wind...

Despues, que importa el despues?
Afterwards, who cares about afterwards
Toda mi vida es el ayer
my whole life is the yesterday
que me detiene en el pasado,
that detains me in my past,
eterna y vieja juventud
eternal and old youth
que me ha dejado acobardado
that has left me frightened
como un pajaro sin luz.
like a bird with no light.

Que le habran hecho mis manos?
What could my hands have done to her?
Que le habran hecho
What could they have done
para dejarme en el pecho
to leave in my chest
tanto dolor?
so much pain?

Dolor de vieja arboleda,
Pain of an old grove,
cancion de esquina
song of a corner
con un pedazo de vida,
with a piece of life,
naranjo en flor...
orange tree in bloom...
