School of Orchestras
The Following piece is based on an article that appeared in the Tangauta Magazine in May 2006, written by Lisandro Gambarotta. The Film Si Sos Brujo, una historia de Tango, premiered in Buenos Aires in 2006 directed by Caroline Neal. It tells the story of the Orchestra Escuela de Tango under the lead of mythical Emilio Balcarce. The Masters: Raul Garello, Atilio stampone, Leoplodo Federico are the inspiration to the younger generation who live the Tango. Ignacio Varchausky is no exception. He plays the bass at the Orchestra El Arranque and is committed to recover the cultural bequest of each Master. This orchestra was createdWhen he studied to improve his style. Small movements of the wrist, the instrument held in this way, or that way and so many other secrets that are essential requirements to maintain our music alive….Listening to the notes played by the master alone was not enough to decipher the magical spell and Thus the idea of the Orchestra Escuela de Tango was born. He sought the support of diverse venues without success until he met Caroline Neal. She was searching for an idea for her first feature film. So Caroline decided to come to Buenos Aires and follow that search with her camera. She began to chronicle the process of finding the director for the School.Emilio Balcarce has been composer, director , violinst and Bandoneon player he composed and played for Pugliese and formed the Sexteto Tango .He was in retirement till youth came back to seek him. Ignacio knew that Emilio was the right person to lead the Orchestra School. At the start it was hard for Emilio and the other masters to understand what was the concept of the project , why and to what end we believed the way they did and do tango, what they could transmit to us that we could no learn from a recording. It took some time to convince him to believe that up until the first rehearsal when he saw the twelve or 14 musicians waiting for him to play his composition…… to be continued..
